Camp Broadway offers a fun and specialized training experience to aspiring young singers, actors and dancers aged 10-14. The program will focus on Broadway musicals such as Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Cinderella, Lion King and Frozen, jointly taught by New York’s finest teams of vocal coaches, music directors, dancer/choreographers and actors, Dr. Peter Thoresen of Pace University (New York City), Ira Spaulding, City College of New York, Andrew Palermo of University of California and Kate Bass of Pepperdine University, Los Angeles.
Camp Broadway participants will acquire basic vocal technique conducive to healthy singing in both solo and ensemble settings; breathing, vowel placement, vocal dynamics, singing with a healthy voice, blending with other singers, vocal vocabulary, and singing in harmony. The program will also emphasize the basics of Broadway music theater singing styles and will also include dance and acting training as well as experience in staging of sung, danced and acted scenes. Broadway Kids participants will have fun as they build confidence, strengthen acting, dance and performance technique and strengthen their voices. Newly learned skills are showcased as the young talents perform in a fun show on the final YES Academy concerts. A video recording will be made and sent to parents to enjoy.
In addition participants will acquire on-stage experience and performance opportunities. Each element of the program is designed to develop participants’ vocal and musical abilities, enhance interpersonal skills and cultivate the discipline, life skills that support all of life endeavors.
If you are required to audition, please prepare one short solo song, acted scene or choreography.
